Why did the construction of the Atatürk Dam on the Euphrates River in Turkey cause conflict in Southwest Asia? The dam has caused the river to completely run dry. The dam has limited the supply of water in other countries.
Water pollution is a concern because of the lack of waste treatment options. Sewage and industrial waste have been dumped into water sources. Also of concern is the limited supply of freshwater. With Dubai’s large population, desalination processes have become necessary to provide people with drinking water.
Built both to generate electricity for the region and to irrigate the plains between the Euphrates (on which it sits) and the Tigris (to the east), Ataturk Dam is the centerpiece of a huge public works program within Turkey known as the Southeastern Anatolia Project.
The biggest cause of Yemen’s disappearing water supply is its use for irrigation. 90% of its water supply goes to agriculture and the government is unable to conserve rainwater.
Water shortages may be caused by climate change, such as altered weather patterns including droughts or floods, increased pollution, and increased human demand and overuse of water. Water scarcity is being driven by two converging phenomena: growing freshwater use and depletion of usable freshwater resources.

Unsafe tap water is not only a health hazard as a drink, but should be used cautiously when it might inadvertently be swallowed, such as when brushing teeth or showering. China, like the vast majority of Asia, is unable to provide clean tap water due to aging pipe systems and the presence of contaminants.
Your bathroom tap water is perfectly fine to brush your teeth and to wash up. As long as you’re not swallowing the water, you’re unlikely to get lead poisoning. And if you’re likely to get thirsty in the night, bring a glass or bottle of kitchen tap water with you to bed.
