The eastern group comprises Lanzarote, Fuerteventura Island, and six islets surmounting a single submarine plateau, the Canary Ridge, that rises about 4,500 feet (1,400 metres) from the ocean floor. The Canary Islands were formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago.
La Gomera is in the Canary Islands archipelago and as such it should be as familiar to us as Great Yarmouth. But it remains relatively obscured by the glare of its larger and noisier neighbour – Tenerife.
Is it expensive to live in the Canary Islands? It isn’t expensive to live in the Canary Islands. According to Numbeo, the cost of living is around 35% cheaper in the Canary Islands than in London. As you’d expect, rent is considerably cheaper; you can find a good apartment in a city centre for around £500 a month.
The best Canary Islands to visit
Tenerife is larger and more visited, and as such also has a more varied selection of food etc. I don’t think there is much of a price difference, not that I’m aware. Lanzarote is very much about active vacations and nature. A lot of people go there for sports and exercise, I clouding a lot of sports pros.
Warmest Canary Island in May – Tenerife The average temperature may be a touch higher in Lanzarote but Tenerife in May will be hot also. The Sea temperature tends be a touch warmer around the central islands which is a big draw for many. The average temperature here is often much higher than the average suggests.
Lanzarote: One of the main attractions of the Canary Islands is without a doubt the beaches. Winner: Both islands have lovely beaches, but Fuerteventura pips Lanzarote on this one! Golden sands and enticing waters make Fuerteventura the place to go when it comes to beaches.
Still if you’re looking for party, malls, culture and a rather cosmopolitan atmosphere, Tenerife is your place. If, on the other hand, you’re just looking for silence, deserted places and pristine beaches, go to Fuerteventura.
The driest, sunniest and warmest part of the island is Morro Jable – where it is often 2 or 3 degrees warmer than in the North.
Re: where’s a good place to stay in Fuerteventura? Like all of the Canary Islands there is a permanent breeze. In the summer it is most welcome, otherwise the heat would be unbearable. As for where to stay, well nowhere on the island is chavvy.
